"I took a look at thousands of photos I’ve taken over the years of living and visiting the Sonoran Desert in which I call home. Choosing the right ones, designing the right layouts, feeling nostalgia while I am away, and becoming more present in the process. Each illustration was designed with perimeters. I chose to create these plants in the boundaries of a rectangle allowing parts of the plant to push through the bounds of the shape releasing tension. This has been a technique in my work over the last few years of creating botanical art in pen & ink. I hope work book brings others tranquila, nostalgia, love and mindfulness as it has for me creating it.
